LSA-SG Sends Condolences to NIU

Greetings,

On behalf of LSA-Student Government, the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the greater University of Michigan community, we would like to send our condolences to the friends and loved ones of those who lost their lives at Northern Illinois University. LSA-Student Government recently passed a resolution to officially honor the lives lost, and in addition, we will be making a contribution to the February 14 Student Scholarship Fund which is dedicated in honor to these individuals. We acknowledge the difficulties in the coming weeks, and even months, for the Husky community, and we send our well wishes and encourage other university communities across the United States to join the University of Michigan in supporting the NIU Huskies. It is the hope of LSA-Student Government that campus communities across the nation will set aside their differences, and unite in the mourning and celebration of the lives of those who have past. Today, and for the many long weeks ahead, we are ALL Huskies.

Keith Reisinger

President, LSA-Student Government

MAC Meeting Tonight

Hey Everyone,

Tonight we will be having our MAC meeting at 7pm in the 4th floor SORC Conference room. The tentative agenda for tonight includes:

  • Finalizing the ‘This Sucks: Stereotypes on Campus‘ Event
  • Figuring out what we want to do with our Movie Night
  • Brainstorming for next semester

Hope everyone is having a great week and I will see everyone tonight.

THIS SUCKS: Having to wait more than three weeks to see a concentration adviser!!!

I am currently working with the English, Psychology, Political Science, and Economics departments to improve incredibly long waits to have appointments with concentration advisers. Whether it is implementing more “open office hours” or hiring more staff, there are a large variety of ways to improve the long wait many students face. I have already met with English and Psychology advisers, and they seem receptive to working with us. Meetings have been set up with Political Science and Economics in the next coming weeks. If you would like to be involved in this effort, or have a suggestion for other problematic departments, or more creative solutions to the problem, please feel free to shoot me an email (kreising@umich.edu).

Printing Pages Meeting

Shelley Rosenberg and I met with Bob Jones and Steve Sarrica to talk about the re-allocation of printing pages for U of M students. Steve is the manager of ITCS Campus Computing Sites and Bob is in charge specifically of printing. It was a great meeting. We talked about a lot of options for getting students more pages. There are a lot of budgetary restraints as well as logistical restraints but they were very interested in our idea of giving people 800 pages to split between Fall and Winter term. This would take some of the variability out of how many pages people use.

Bob and Steve are going to talk with some people in the Student Budget and Accounts office as well as the Provost and their staff about what we can do with this project. The budget is set each year in July so any change would take place officially when they set the new budget. Students wouldn’t see any changes in printing pages until next Fall, if we are successful. Attached are our notes from the meeting:
