Steven Benson

Bio

Hey everyone! My name is Steven Benson and I am a newly elected representative to LSA-SG. I am very active in the Student Life Committee, and I am currently helping to make a sports guide for all international students. I am a freshman living in couzens from West Bloomfield, Michigan, and I plan to major in political science and psychology, with hopes of becoming a high school teacher. I am also a proud member of the Sigma Alpa Mu fraternity and I am a part of the Michigan Community Scholars Program. Student Government has always been something I really enjoy, and I can’t wait to get more involved!

Tonia Berry

Bio

Tonia is a junior from Dearborn, Michigan who plans to pursue a career in business law. This will be her third year as a representative, and her first year as Appointments VIce-Chair on LSA-SG. She is hoping to bring a lot of new faces to student government this year, and is planning on becoming involved in several projects as well. She is an active member in MSA’s Homecoming Committee, representing LSA-SG, and was involved in the Taste of Michigan in the past and plans on helping out with the event again this year.

Weston Brunner

Bio

Weston Bruner is a senior political science major and a native of Baltimore, Maryland.  He is entering his third year at Michigan after transferring from Emory University.  Weston is in his second year as the President of the LS&A Honor Council, and was appointed to a Representative seat in the winter of 2008.  He looks forward to another year of growth of the Honor Council as it enters a new phase of development.

Kim Buddin

Bio

I’m Kimberly Buddin. I’m a sophomore majoring in psychology and probably minoring in poli sci. I’m from Ypsilanti, MI which is about 10 minutes from Ann Arbor. Currently I am the vice-chair for the Multicultural Affairs Committee (MAC) which meets Tuesdays at 7pm! Our committee goal is to address multicultural issues and concerns on campus and act as a liason between other multicultural organizations! We are currently working on increasing our membership to get some of our great ideas rolling and look forward to working with other orgs and committees!

Sam Carmell

Bio

Sam Carmell is a freshman from Deerfield, IL. He is thrilled to have been elected in November ’07 and hopes to fulfill all of his campaign promises over the next year. Sam got involved with LSA-SG by first being an active member of the Student Life Committee (SLC) and currently looks forward to being the chair of SLC in the Winter ’08 semester. During his first semester he served on the Student Life Committee and Budget Allocation Committee. Plus, Sam is a proud member of the Sigma Alpha Mu Fraturity and University of Michigan Hillel. He is excited to work with other students and administrators to improve the quality of student life.

Becca Leider

I am a sophomore from West Bloomfield, Michigan and I am majoring in Psychology. I have been involved in Student Government for many years and I am really excited for LSA-SG this year! Along with being an elected Representative, I am also the Chair of the Student Advisory Panel to Academic Advising and work on many different issues concerning Academic Advising. I am currently working on implementing a student feedback system in the advising center where students can share their advising experiences with others. Also, I am planning to have multiple discussions with advising in the fall that will focus on issues such as advising at orientation, peer advising and international/transfer student advising

Stephanie Parrish

Bio

I’m a freshman living in Couzens Hall as a part of the Michigan Community Scholars Program. I’m from West Bloomfield, MI and am majoring in Biologyand plan to apply to the School of Education next year (but still stay in LSA as well, don’t worry :-P). In addition to LSA SG I am involved in PULSE and UMDM.

Currently, I am the historian of LSA SG and am working to properly document the success of LSA SG this year. I’m a co-chair for the Did You Know subcommittee working to get important and useful facts out to students about UofM. Also, I am working on planning the Energy theme semester for next fall. I have also aided the academic advisors in making their cTools and normal website more user-friendly and appealing to students. As a member of SAPAA, AAC, and Student Life I hope to continue gaining experience and improve the college of LS&A.

Scott Price

Hi! My name is Scott Price and I am from Sterling Heights, Michigan. I am currently a freshman at U of M and hoping to major in Economics and Spanish. I was an Associate Representative since the beginning of the school year and in November was appointed to a representative seat until March. I am in the Communications Committee and was elected as Comm Vice Chair. I plan on putting a lot of my time into helping organize the upcoming Graduation Event that will be taking place in April. I am excited about LSA-SG and the responsibility of being Comm Vice Chair. I look forward to a great new semester and can’t wait to work further with you all!

Nick Tan

Bio

Hey fellow Wolverines! My name is Nick Tan and I am a junior from Singapore. I joined LSA SG fall semester freshman year as an associate representative on the Academic Affairs Committee, and successfully ran for a representative seat for the past two years. Last year, I was the SAPAA and Appointments Vice-Chair and worked closely with the Advising Center to improve freshman and sophomore academic advising and helped create the Peace and Social Justice Minor. This year, as the Appointments Chair, I’m excited to meet all you new members come Fall Semester!

Some of the projects that I hope to accomplish this year include working with the Advising Center to create an ‘Advising on Wheels’ workshop for various student organizations, improving Junior/Senior academic advising, creating a new member packet, and improving the Race & Ethnicity Requirement and Study Abroad options for students.
